Brandon covered bridge hit for 2nd time in two months

BRANDON, Vt. (WCAX) – A covered bridge in Brandon has been struck by a truck for the second time in as many months.

The Sanderson Bridge, which connects Routes 30 and 7, was first hit in early October. Now, town officials say it was damaged again last weekend in another hit.

While back open now, Brandon Deputy Town Manager Bill Moore says the local landmark needs to be protected for both its history and function. “It’s important to protect the public infrastructure. Generally, these are tax dollars that went into putting these things in there and we need to protect them,” he said. “I think there’s probably due to the fact that people are relying a lot more on technology, the technology is telling them they can go through that way.”

He says a contractor originally lined up to fix the first round of repairs will also take care of the latest damage.
