ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Authorities say no charges will be filed in a St. Johnsbury domestic violence incident last summer that injured two people and left two people dead, one of them the perpetrator.
It happened this past July at home on Cottage Street. Vermont State Police say Nicholas Johnson, 42, broke into the home and stabbed three people, including Ben Lyons, a 21-year-old Vermont State University Lyndon student who later died.
Police say Patrick Mayhew, 33, fatally shot Johnson. They say both Mayhew and his wife, Jennifer Bradley, 44, were treated for knife wounds.
Authorities say Bradley is also Lyons’ mother and the former partner of Johnson.
Two children were in the home at the time of the incident but were not harmed. The family’s two dogs were also attacked and one of them died.
After turning the case over to the Caledonia County state’s attorney, police say no charges will be filed and that the case is closed.
