New consumer protection laws passed in New York

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – New York’s governor is trying to save you money this holiday season.

Governor Kathy Hochul passed five consumer protection laws.

The first requires health clubs like gyms to cancel your membership within 10 days of notice.

The second prohibits things like administrative or handling fees at the end of a car lease.

Another requires telemarketers to provide certain information within the first 30 seconds of a call.

Restaurants now have to offer a link to view recent health inspection grades.

Lastly, it’s now illegal to block the label on over-the-counter drugs.
