Vt. high court to rule on who has authority over state’s public trails

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont Supreme Court is considering who has the authority regarding a legal trail that is town-maintained in Tunbridge but crosses through private property.

The decision has the potential to reshape public access rights throughout the state, with significant consequences for recreation, landowners, residents, and municipalities.

Darren Perron spoke with Jared Carter, a professor at Vermont Law & Graduate School, about what’s at stake.
