LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Police in Lebanon, New Hampshire, are investigating alleged theft by numerous employees of the city’s Public Works Department.
Police say they were notified by town officials in early October of a potential crime.
We don’t yet know how many people are involved or what was stolen.
We do know that investigators have conducted roughly a dozen interviews.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and they hope to wrap it up in the next three to four weeks.
“The police department is completely standalone, independent from the city’s internal investigation. Ours is a criminal probe into it. Our findings will be shared with the Grafton County Attorney’s Office to decide on any charges moving forward. The city side of the investigation is more procedural and policy violations,” Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts said.
We reached out to the city manager’s office for comment on the investigation but had not yet heard back when this story was published.
Lebanon Public Works employs more than 50 people who manage the city’s roads, utilities and solid waste.
