MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – For the first time in history, seven of Montpelier’s downtown bridges are illuminated.
Montpelier Alive hosted a community bridge lighting ceremony, lantern parade, refreshments and a special performance by Cirque De Fuego.
Participants formed a lantern parade up Main St., over the bridge and along the bike path to Taylor St. Bridge – as each one lit up.
A business owner says the community deserves some light after everything it’s been through.
“I think it will and I think if anything our downtown and the folks who’ve lived here and supported all these businesses are just excited to be celebrating something lovely like that,” Elena Gustavson of Magpie & Tiger said.
The event ended in a special performance at the Taylor St. Bridge by Vermont’s own fire performance troupe – Cirque De Fuego.
Participants could also attend a student circus performance at Montpelier High School, and continue festivities downtown at local restaurants and businesses.
