Vt. education officials release report on cost-cutting options

BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) – A new report from Vermont education officials agency sheds light on how the state could keep property taxes from skyrocketing to pay for schools.

The report released Friday by the Agency of Education compares the state’s education system to those in other states.

Among the options it includes are revising the school funding formula, reorganizing and restructuring districts to consolidate administrative costs, and aligning school personnel with student enrollment and needs. That could include increasing class sizes or decreasing paraprofessionals.

The topic is expected to take center stage when lawmakers return to the Statehouse in January.
