ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – St. Albans officials are asking voters to keep stormwater in mind on this Election Day.
On the November ballot, voters will say yes or no to a stormwater project, along with the purchase of a vacuum truck.
The city would spend $500,000 to build a gravel wetland off Lemnah Drive. The project would reduce storm flows and phosphorus from the stormwater system. And they say the truck is needed to help with the repairs.
Both together will cost $1.25 million.
“What we are looking at is trying to clean up the watershed that flow into the brooks that go through the city. But also ultimately St. Albans Bay, which as you know suffers from algae blooms and other forms of nutrient pollution. Like it or not the city is required to make these improvements.” said Chip Sawyer, the director of planning and development in the city of St. Albans.
The anticipated debt from this bond item is already included in current stormwater utility fees.
