Political polarization and children’s mental health

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – How does election season impact your children’s mental health? Researchers at the University of Vermont are studying the effects of political polarization on mental health, particularly in kids.

They say heightened tensions may exacerbate feelings of depression and anxiety for people of all ages.

Experts say it’s important to talk to your kids and meet them where they’re at.

“Regardless of where one sits politically, you might say, ‘Hey, I get worked up, but we’re OK. Like, things are going to be OK,’” said Dr. Steven Schlozman, a professor at UVM.

Researchers say the study is currently in development and will be implemented soon.
