HANOVER, N.H. (WCAX) – Sirens from an emergency alert system blasted in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Monday.
Dartmouth College conducted a test of its emergency mass notification system that used sirens and outdoor public addresses.
The test is done by the Office of Emergency Management at Dartmouth every year.
Members of the Dartmouth community were also notified by email and text.
Town officials say the college and town work closely together in the event of a real emergency.
“Yes, it has to be tested too so it’s good to know what’s going on and that it works. And then just communication back and forth at every level to make sure we know what is going on in campus, they know what is going on in town,” Hanover Fire Chief Michael Gilbert said.
The siren and voice coming from the outdoor speakers can be heard up to 10 miles from campus.
Monday’s drill only lasted a couple of minutes.
