Star on Woodstock’s Mt. Tom to be re-lit this weekend

WOODSTOCK, Vt. (WCAX) – The star on top of Mount Tom in Woodstock will be re-lit this weekend after getting a major facelift.

The star has filled the town with holiday joy since the late 1950s, but the wooden structure that holds it up had deteriorated.

The Woodstock Rotary Club led the effort to raise more than $120,000 to replace the wood with metal this past summer.

Town officials say it’s an important symbol for the community. “The star means so much to so many people in different ways. For example, for myself, I would come back from college, and driving into town, I knew I was home when I saw the star,” said the Rotary’s Norm Frates.

The re-lighting is this Sunday at 5:00 in front of the Woodstock Inn. The newly improved star will shine from November to March.
