ANR hosts municipal biodiversity workshops

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont town leaders Friday learned how to improve the environment in their communities as part of the 11th Annual Municipal Day.

The Agency of Natural Resources hosted the event in Montpelier and this year’s theme centered on biodiversity and helping cities and towns understand the role they play in addressing climate-related issues like floods, wildfires, and invasive species. Workshops ranged from how to apply for outdoor recreation grants to sustainable forest management.

“Sometimes state government can seem like a monolith, and you don’t really know where to go to get your question answered. By helping connect staff directly with people doing that work on the ground in our local communities, I’m hopeful it reduces that perceived barrier to entry,” said Vermont Natural Resources Secretary Julie Moore.

More than 100 local officials attended Friday’s workshops, the largest group since before the pandemic.
