$3.4 million project replaces and enhances North Country bridge

ESSEX, N.Y. (WCAX) – A new bridge over the Boquet River in Essex County, new York is enhancing safety and resiliency along an important access road to North Country destinations.

That’s what officials at New York’s Department of Transportation say after the completion of a $3.4 million project that replaced the bridge carrying state Route 22 in the town of Essex.

The new bridge, which is now open to traffic, replaced a 91-year-old structure. It’s longer than the previous bridge, which officials say will better protect the river’s ecosystem. It also has has wider shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists.
