Highgate man pleads not guilty to federal firearms charge

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Highgate man has pleaded not guilty to federal firearms charges.

Authorities say Jason Douglas, 40, was indicted by a grand jury in Burlington last month for unlawfully possessing a Ruger .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol as a convicted felon.

Burlington Police say Douglas was arrested back in July for reckless endangerment after pointing a gun at someone downtown. According to court records, he already had two separate felony convictions in Vermont for kidnapping and burglary.

At a hearing Tuesday, a judge ordered that Douglas be released on conditions that include home confinement.
