MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – WCAX News has learned the state of Vermont is working to set up three new shelters for homeless families with children.
This year, new caps on the state’s hotel-motel program went into effect, leaving at least 21 homeless kids that state officials are aware of.
We are now told the state is setting up three family shelters: in Waterbury at the armory building, in Williston at the former state police barracks and in Montpelier in vacant state office space.
We don’t know the cost of the shelters or what their physical footprint will look like. We’re told they are looking to have them up and running by Nov. 1, though the state is still looking for a provider for the Williston location.
