New housing project coming to Barre City

BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) – New housing opportunities are coming to downtown Barre.

The city spent the last year searching for a developer to invest in housing at an old parking lot site off Seminary St. that will soon be home to 32 new units.

Williston-based DEW construction, Downstreet, and Evernorth will put together the flood-resistant, mixed-income housing.

Barre City Manager Nicolas Storellicastro says it’s a welcome change after so many residents have been displaced by flooding and homelessness. “We haven’t had a housing project like this in Barre in a long time. This has the potential to break ground in the following year. We will have some units online very quickly. These will be the first units that really come online in this magnitude after the flood,” he said.

The project is expected to start next year.
