BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Bennington is paying public tribute to its local heroes.
The local VFW recently launched its Green Mountain Hometown Heroes project. Banners with pictures of local veterans are now up on poles lining North Street.
Kelly Carroll with the American Legion says it brings great pride to the community. “As far as I know, we’re the first ones in Vermont. And I travel around a lot through New York and Massachusetts and I see them, so it makes me very very proud to be part of those organizations and to be able to see my dad,” Carroll said.
Organizers plan to put up more banners along South Street.
