New funding to help homeowners ‘button up’ this winter

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – New funding is aimed at helping Vermonters stay warm this winter.

Efficiency Vermont is launching a new Button Up home repair program where residents can apply for up to $15,000 in rebates on home construction or renovation that readies their homes for upcoming weatherization projects. Those can include work on roofs, air ducts, siding, plumbing, or mold-related.

“A combination of incentives and financing can bring the average weatherization around to about $40 a month based on a project size of about $12,000,” said Efficiency Vermont’s Peter Walke.

Home heating makes up about one-third of Vermonters’ energy costs
