Vermont deer archery season underway

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Tuesday marks the beginning of archery season in Vermont, the first stage in Vermont’s 1.5-month deer season.

Hunters may take up to four deer in Vermont’s two-part archery season, Oct. 1-Nov. 15 and Dec. 2-15.

Vermont Fish & Wildlife says hunters last year took 16,800 deer overall, with the buck harvest of 9,800 higher than last year and above the three-year average of 9,336.

Reporter Ike Bendavid spoke with Vermont Fish and Wildlife’s Nick Fortin about the health of the herd.
