Pawlet seeks foreclosure of Slate Ridge property

WEST PAWLET Vt. (WCAX) – The town of Pawlet wants to foreclose on Slate Ridge, the former paramilitary gun range owned by Daniel Banyai that is at the heart of a yearslong legal dispute.

The town this week asked a judge to approve a foreclosure on the property, saying Banyai owes more than $226,000 in fines and legal fees following years of court disputes over unpermitted structures on his property and contempt of court orders to clean it up.

It comes as Banyai was arrested earlier this month for violating conditions in an aggravated assault case against a local constable that called for him to remain in-state. Investigators say he was spotted in New York state in August.
