Young Vermont good citizens celebrated at Statehouse

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Good citizens in the making were celebrated at the Vermont Statehouse on Thursday.

Throughout the summer, our media partners at Seven Days have held the Good Citizens Challenge.

It tasked Vermont kids with completing up to 25 civic challenges, from finding a deed in the town office to reading the news and even picking up trash.

Thursday was the awards reception highlighting the more than 250 kids who participated.

Willa Saunders of Burlington was one of the runners-up for the “I voted” sticker design challenge.

“I think being a good citizen means helping your community, helping those around you, and I think that that is really important,” said Willa Saunders of Burlington.

This year was the most successful summer challenge yet with around 1,300 activities completed.

The reception ended with a raffle open to everyone who entered the challenge. The prize– a trip for two to Washington, D.C.
