WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) – Another Chittenden County community is asking for a change to the Vermont Air National Guard’s F-35 mission.
The Winooski City Council Wednesday night voted to pass a resolution asking the Vermont congressional delegation to ask the secretary of the Air Force to change the mission for the Guard to something that causes less harm to surrounding residential neighborhoods.
Since before the arrival of the fighter jets in 2019, opponents have raised concerns about their noise and accompanying health threats to those who live in the flight path. The military and the airport are involved in a sound mitigation program that has dragged on for years.
This move is similar to a resolution passed by Burlington last month.
The Burlington City Council last year voted to extend the Vermont Air National Guard’s lease at the Burlington Airport for decades to come.
