With school underway, Burlington puts out the call for crossing guards

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The city of Burlington is looking for a few good crossing guards.

They currently only have 18 of the 33 positions filled.

Officials say it’s a 50-minute commitment in the morning and afternoon and pays $20 a shift or $200 a week.

The city says it’s extremely important to staff the jobs to help kids get to school safely and can also be very rewarding. “Our crossing guards really are some of the best people and they come from all walks of life and they share a common desire to help their community, get to know their neighbors, support families, get the little conversations every day. It’s really a fabulous job,” said Burlington Public Works Director Chapin Spencer.

The city is also willing to work with people who might only be able to do certain segments of the day.
