Police investigating disappearance of North Bennington man

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police are still investigating the disappearance of a man from North Bennington and say a limited search will continue in the coming days.

The investigation started on Thursday when Matthew Houskeeper, 59, did not show up for work and was reported missing.

Friday morning, Houskeeper’s car was found abandoned on Tunnel Street in Whitingham near the Sherman Reservoir. Troopers searched the scene but were not able to find Houskeeper.

Bennington police say Houskeeper is an avid kayaker and frequently goes kayaking.

After looking for Houskeeper on Sunday, police said he remained missing as of Monday morning. Monday afternoon, troopers said a limited search would continue in the coming days.

He’s described as 6′1″ with gray-blond hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information or who saw or found a blue and white kayak on or near the Sherman Reservoir is asked to call the state police in Westminster at 802-722-4600, the police in Bennington at 802-442-1030 or to leave an anonymous tip online.
