Patricia Prelock named new interim University of Vermont president

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Current Provost and Senior Vice President, Patricia Prelock, has been named the new interim president at the University of Vermont. It comes after the announcement that the current president, Suresh Garimella, will become president of the University of Arizona.

Prelock has been in her position since 2019. She will begin as interim president this fall while the search for the university’s next president continues.

In a statement she said, “I am honored to serve UVM as interim president and appreciate the trust placed in me by the board. I am certain that we will maintain the positive momentum of recent years as we navigate together toward a presidential leadership transition. UVM’s students are always my highest priority, and I look forward to leading continued collaboration with my valued colleagues across the university to ensure their success.”

The University of Vermont’s board of trustees met in executive session Monday to discuss the appointment of an interim president.
