Rights & Democracy held a housing rally Saturday

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Rights & Democracy held a housing rally Saturday.

People gathered at 1:00pm in Burlington’s Battery Park hoping to shed light on the ongoing housing crisis. The group is advocating for the current landlord- tenant policy to be reformed. Officials say the rally is a chance for the community to come together, voice their concerns and support the movement for fair and effective housing policies.

“Justice is ensuring that everyone has a home and one that is clean safe and affordable,” said Joe Magee, Burlington Mayor’s Deputy Chief of Staff.

“So I look forward to a future where housing is a human right is no longer just a slogan,” said Joe Moore, Labor organizer and member of Central Vermont Democratic Socialists of America.

“We can live more affordably, and without dependency on people who are trying to make a profit off of us,” said Rep. Kate Logan.

The speakers were both elected officials and community members working on improving housing for all. Free lunch provided by The People’s Kitchen.
