Senate Judiciary Committee advances nomination of Vt. judge

WASHINGTON (WCAX) – The Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday advanced the nomination of Mary Kay Lanthier to be the next Vermont District Court judge.

Her nomination was advanced by the committee by a vote of 13 to 7 and goes next to the full Senate for a final confirmation vote.

President Biden nominated Lanthier in May to fill the seat of Judge Geoffrey Crawford with the joint recommendation of senators Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch.

She began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the trial courts in Chittenden and Addison counties. She now serves as the supervising attorney at the Rutland County Public Defender’s Office, a position she’s held for 17 years.
