MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont treasurer’s office says they’ve paid out a record number of unclaimed property claims.
Officials say they processed a record 19,000 claims returning $5.8 million to Vermonters in the past fiscal year.
Despite the high numbers, Treasurer Mike Pieciak says the state currently holds over $130 million in unclaimed property and that number continues to increase.
Unclaimed property includes uncashed checks, forgotten security deposits, investments, and other financial property.
