WOODSTOCK, Vt. (WCAX) – A year after devastating flooding, the Woodstock Farmers’ Market is operating business as usual at their Route 4 location.
They were closed for several months after floodwaters from the Ottauquechee River forced staff to gut nearly the entire business. The owners credit the community’s strong support in helping the store weather the storm. It was the second time the market was hit — Tropical Storm Irene also caused significant damage.
“Water was a little higher during Irene but honestly, two feet or four feet, it doesn’t really matter. You still have to go through the same processes with flood insurance, cleaning out the building, etc.,” said the market’s Patrick Crowl.
Business owners say they are investigating different ideas on how to deal with future flooding, including possibly moving or raising the building off the ground.
