One Year Later: Ludlow restaurant’s long road to recovery after flooding

LUDLOW, Vt. (WCAX) – In the last year, businesses in Ludlow have worked nonstop to reopen after the floods. For one restaurant, it has been a long road to recovery.

The basement of the Homestyle Hotel in downtown Ludlow was filled with water, mud and debris during last year’s flooding. The water destroyed the restaurant’s electrical system and wiped out their inventory.

Owner Eliza Greene says after months of work, Homestyle Hotel is one of the few restaurants in the area able to get back on their feet. But she says the impact of that day will last forever.

“Definite terror just watching the water rise… We live on the street behind our restaurant and were able to watch the water rise and it was just so scary not knowing what was inside. Of course, our cameras lost power, so we were clueless,” Greene said.

She says they worked 12- to 18-hour days to get the doors back open, which resulted in their busiest year post-flood.
