Former Gov. Kunin says Biden should bow out

SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) – Former Vermont Governor Madeleine Kunin has joined a growing number of Democrats in calling for President Joe Biden to step aside in his reelection bid.

The party has been split following the president’s disastrous debate performance last week on whether Biden should step aside to allow a stronger candidate to challenge former President Trump.

Kunin says she has strongly supported Biden’s career and his presidency, but the 90-year-old says the stakes in the coming election are just too high and that the Democratic Party should nominate a new candidate at their convention next month. “Is he well equipped? He was well-equipped. Things change. The things I can’t do that I did years ago… Father time, or mother time, marches on,” Kunin said.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in a fundraising email this week also outlined the stakes in the upcoming election and said that the party’s first priority needs to be defeating Trump at the polls. But he also said he takes Biden at his word –that he’s staying in the race.
