BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington bus stop shelter will be relocated in hopes of preventing people from setting up camp there.
The people who seek refuge there are usually homeless and dealing with substance use issues.
Green Mountain Transit says at the library’s request, they will move the sheltered area.
“I know these folks are in desperate situations and so, therefore, our bus shelter seems like it would be a good place, you know, for them to live. But certainly, I can relate to and understand the frustration that our riders are going to feel when there’s one less place for them to wait out of the weather for their service,” said Clayton Clark of Green Mountain Transit.
GMT says they’ve had to previously relocate other shelters for this same reason. Officials say they are also working on other types of shelter for bus stops that wouldn’t promote camping.
