BARTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A landowner in Barton is facing a heavy fine from the state after running an unpermitted salvage yard.
According to the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, Brent Bapp is accused of operating a salvage yard with no permit on his property in Barton.
He’s now looking at a nearly $25,000 fine.
Salvage yards typically contain hazardous materials that can come with severe environmental impacts. As a result, proper permitting for salvage yards is somewhat involved.
According to the DEC,operating in compliance with the law is to protect public health.
