Colchester police investigating string of suspicious brush fires

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Police in Colchester are investigating a string of suspicious brush fires that they believe are connected.

Crews responded to the first report around 3:30 p.m. Monday on Bay Road.

Police say they took several more calls about other brush fires along parts of Route 2 and Route 7 heading into Milton.

There were at least five fires in Colchester and more in Milton and South Hero.

“The timeframe that they all came in, and the types of fires that we were seeing– it was leading us to a more investigative role to determine what was the cause of the fires,” Colchester Police Sgt. Jeremy Wyskiel said.

The fires were 50 to 70 feet long, but police say no homes or property were damaged.

Police had no leads Monday and asked anyone with information to contact them at 802-264-5555.
