Vermont State Parks open for the season

WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State Parks open their gates for the season.

At Waterbury Center, early summer visitors enjoyed a sunny day on the reservoir. There was cornhole and barbecue on the shore, with fishing, swimming and kayaking on the water. West McDonough of Swanton came with her husband for sea kayaking lessons, something they looked forward to throughout the wonky winter.

“It’ll be nice and cool on the water and the wind blowing just the right amount,” McDonough smiled. “I just expect it to be completely exhilarating.”

Opening day also marks the 100-year anniversary of the Vermont State Parks system.
