Sen. Sanders introduces the End Polluter Welfare Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCAX) – Your gas bill isn’t the only time your money makes its way to fossil fuel companies – and one Vermont senator is trying to change that.

According to Senator Bernie Sanders, taxpayers pay for $17 million of federal subsidies to fossil fuel companies each year, all while facing the dangerous and expensive effects of climate change.

The End Polluter Welfare Act would close tax loopholes and eliminate corporate handouts to the oil, gas, and coal industry – a move Sanders says will save Americans $170 billion over the next 10 years.
