BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Class might be winding down for the summer, but efforts to keep kids fed during break are just ramping up.
This week, Vermont got the thumbs up from the US Department of Agriculture to launch the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer program.
The plan helps feed eligible school-aged children during summer vacation, providing $120 per child for the summer for families to use on groceries.
Families who automatically qualify based on existing benefits will get a notice in the mail and start seeing this cash on July 15. Others who might be eligible can apply starting in August.
