Raccoon tests positive for rabies in North Country; residents urged to be wary

PORT HENRY, N.Y. (WCAX) – A Northern New York county has reported yet another case of rabies.

Essex County announced that a raccoon found dead on a Moriah golf course has tested positive for the virus.

The animal was found on May 17 and the positive results came back on Tuesday, making this the fifth animal to test positive in the county this year.

Experts from the county Department of Health are urging anyone who could have come into contact with the raccoon to reach out in case of possible exposure.
