Burlington man accused of assaulting police officer

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Police say it happened at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when a Burlington officer spotted a suspected stolen car idling near the Fletcher Free Library.

The officer tried to stop the driver, Nicolas Walls, 41, of Burlington, but Walls jumped out of the car and ran off. When the officer caught up with Walls and tried to take him into custody, Walls punched and injured him. When more officers arrived to help, Walls was taken into custody on charges of simple assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Walls was held without bail due to an outstanding warrant from the Williston Police Department.
