Man accused of pipe bomb possession sentenced to 6 years in prison

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – The man accused of possessing a pipe bomb at his Springfield home has been sentenced in federal court.

Federal prosecutors say 35-year-old Anibal Castro pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and pipe bomb possession and will serve six years in prison.

The pipe bomb was found during a search warrant at Castro’s home on Valley Street in April of 2022.

Police say it was about 10 inches, contained 650 BB pellets, and had the words “bye-bye” written on it.

An investigation by federal agents found that if the device was used, it could have caused property damage or hurt and even killed people nearby.
