PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – The Clinton County American Legion and the town of Plattsburgh are launching a fundraising campaign for the Battlefield Memorial Gateway, a park to honor the service and sacrifice of American veterans in the North Country.
Town supervisor Michael Cashman says there will be three fundraising pushes this summer.
Last November, the town unveiled the Purple Heart Trail. Cashman says the second phase will primarily focus on securing funding for the $6 million project.
“By next year, we are hoping to have additional shovels in the ground, some additional large elements of the park actually begin to be built. So, this year is about fundraising, it is about public awareness, it is about applying for grants,” Cashman said.
Cashman says donations can be made to the Clinton County American Legion. He also says benches will soon be installed at the gateway.
