MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont transportation officials are urging drivers to buckle up ahead of the Memorial Day holiday.
The state’s seatbelt use rate was about 89% in 2023, according to VTrans, which is around the national average.
They say 25 of the 42 car crash fatalities in 2023 were either unbelted or improperly belted, meaning almost 60% of victims in fatal crashes weren’t buckled up.
The National Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign runs from May 20th to June 2nd, where police will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt enforcement.
