Vt., NY, NH to receive cash from multistate wireless settlement

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire are part of a multistate settlement with major wireless carriers over deceptive or misleading advertising.

The settlement was announced Thursday and includes AT&T, Cricket, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Tracphone. The investigation found that the companies made false claims in advertisements, including misrepresentations about “unlimited” data plans that were in fact limited and had reduced quality and speed after a certain limit was reached by the user.

Nationwide, the companies have to change some of their business practices and will shell out over $10 million.

Vermont will see about $67,000 of that and New York will pick up $520,000.
