Restoration of Saranac Lake’s Union Depot slated for this summer

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. (WCAX) – The restoration of Saranac Lake’s historic Union Depot is slated for this summer.

The 1900s-era building sits along the rail trail connecting Lake Placid to Tupper Lake. Officials say they intend to use the building as a future welcome center.

“Holds a special place in a lot of Saranac Laker’s hearts that we have missed for a long time and will be so happy to see a thriving, restored, beautiful landmark as the hub of the rail trail,” said Saranac Lake Mayor Jimmy Williams.

State officials say the first step will replacing the building’s roof.
