COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say a pedestrian who died on Interstate 89 Monday night was lying in the roadway before he was hit by multiple vehicles.
It happened just before 9 p.m. in Colchester in the northbound lane.
Vermont State Police say Bhim Jogi, 38, of Colchester, was lying in the travel lane along the fog line when he was hit by two cars and a tractor-trailer. He died at the scene.
Troopers say Jogi was wearing dark clothing and the drivers couldn’t see him.
Investigators say there are still a lot of unknowns.
“This individual was a local to Colchester and at this point, during the investigation, we have no knowledge of why they were walking on the interstate, just that they were,” Vt. State Police Tpr. Quincy Chandler said.
Police say the drivers of the cars stopped immediately, but they still need to identify and speak with the driver of the tractor-trailer. No charges are expected.
Anyone who saw the incident or with information is asked to call the state police in Williston at 802-878-7111.
