BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington man initially charged with attempted murder for a downtown shooting last spring has been sentenced after pleading guilty to a lesser charge.
Police say 19-year-old Tyrin Smith and his brother, Fortune, 22 broke into an apartment on Main Street in April 2023 and Tyrin shot Aquill Nickson through a hole in the wall.

Police at the time said Nickson was not the intended target and that they were actually looking for another person.
Tyrin was initially charged with first-degree attempted murder but pleaded guilty this week to burglary into an occupied dwelling.
A judge sentenced him to 2 to 5 years in prison but he will get credit for time served.
