‘Vermont Strong’ plates raise over $1M for flood recovery

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The sale of new “Vermont Strong” license plates raised over a million dollars for flood recovery.

After last summer’s floods, Gov. Phil Scott revived the Vermont Strong plates that were first introduced after Tropical Storm Irene.

For the reissue of the plates, the state also partnered with sock company Darn Tough to make license plate and sock bundles.

Now, a new report to the Vermont Legislature shows the initiative brought in about $1.2 million.

The money raised will cover production costs and then will be split between the Business Emergency Gap Assistance Program and the Vermont Community Foundation.
