New Vermont wake boat rules now in place

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – After a nearly two-year heated debate, rules restricting wake boats on Vermont waterways are now in place.

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation says the new rules went into effect April 15.

They limit wakesport activity to zones at least 50 acres, over 20 feet deep, at least 200 feet wide, and over 500 feet from shore. That amounts to 30 of the state’s inland lakes where the activity is permitted.

The rules were established to prevent damage to shoreline ecosystems and disturbance of other non-motorized users.
