PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – New funding from New York’s state budget will help beef up housing and infrastructure in the town of Plattsburgh. More than $590 million is being set aside state wide for chips funding, which is a pot of money that’s used to repair roads. The allocation is an increase of about $60 million compared to last year. Town Supervisor Michael Cashman says it’ll help with paving projects. Also in the budget, more than $600 million for pro-housing communities.
Plattsburgh is one of five in the north country with the label. Cashman says the priority funding will help with the creation of new homes within the town.
“We know that need to continue to do work, it’s not about sitting on your laurels, it’s about finding opportunities to bring in private developers with some infusion of state funds where it makes sense and then also making sure you have the appropriate infrastructure” said Plattsburgh Town Supervisor, Michael Cashman
In the last ten years, Cashman says the town has created more than 500 housing units.
