Norwich wheelchair accessible trail now open

NORWICH, Vt. (WCAX) – There is a new wheelchair-accessible nature trail in the Upper Valley.

It’s located behind the Marion Cross Elementary School in Norwich and connects to the school’s outdoor classroom. The trail cost about $50,000 and took two years to complete. The school district worked with the alliance to get it done.

“This fits perfectly into our mission because we need willing partners who are eager to get great trails on the ground, to make them equitable and accessible to anyone who wants to use them,” said the alliance’s Russell Hirschler.

“We are making sure that this trail network which is in such a beautiful place, such a great resource for our students, is actually accessible for every single child and every member of the community,” said SAU 70 Superintendent Jay Badams.

The Upper Valley Trails Alliance is celebrating its 25th year as a nonprofit. Over that time, the organization has helped to build and maintain about 75 miles of trails.
